COMING SOON: LA Rams Superfan: Karl Sides the Gold-Caped Hero of Rams Nation

Few fans can say their passion shines quite as brightly—literally—as Karl Sides, better known to the NFL world as Ram Man. From gold-painted Reeboks to a Batman-inspired cape, Karl’s fandom is more than costume—it’s a legacy built on creativity, loyalty, and heart.

From St. Louis to Los Angeles: A Fan’s Evolution

Karl’s journey began in St. Louis, where football first took hold of his imagination. A lifelong sports lover, he initially split his allegiance between the Cowboys and the Rams. But when the Rams relocated to St. Louis, something clicked. The team wasn’t just on his radar—they were home. That’s when Ram Man was born.

Inspired by his love of Batman, Karl designed his now-iconic look: a gold lamé cape, custom horns sewn onto a baseball cap, and those unmistakable gold Reeboks. “I wanted to thank Georgia for saving football in St. Louis,” Karl said, referring to Rams owner Georgia Frontiere. His alter-ego became a symbol of gratitude—and pure fan joy.

Karl lights up when talking about SoFi Stadium, calling it one of the most beautiful arenas in the world. During the interview, JR Greene shared his own SoFi experience—a rainy, unforgettable adventure—and the two swapped tips for fans planning a visit.

Beyond the stands, Karl’s impact reaches far wider. As an early member of the Pro Football Ultimate Fans Association (PFUFA), founded in 1999, he’s helped shape a community devoted to giving back. The group’s annual volunteer work in Canton, Ohio, especially with local kids, has become a cornerstone of its mission.

Karl spoke passionately about watching generations grow up through those programs—kids who once received support now returning as mentors themselves. It’s the kind of full-circle moment that defines the best of sports fandom.

Among his proudest moments: being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Hall of Fans, and even attending a superfan wedding—complete with mascots, jerseys, and all.

Karl and JR talked about how to connect with younger audiences and keep the energy of the show as strong as its community spirit.

For Karl Sides, fandom isn’t about fame. It’s about friendship, creativity, and carrying the torch for a team and a community that have given him so much. In his words and his gold cape alike, Ram Man reminds us that the real superpower of sports is belonging.
